'The dock cleat used to cast this edition of glass sculptures was stationed on my family's dock with the weathered dock wood for many generations. From my grandparents to my nieces and nephews, the dock and cleat have seen nearly a century of boating, fishing, crabbing and shrimping adventures. To create the pieces a silicone mold was fabricated on the cleat, before wax is poured into the mold generating a wax positive. The wax is coated with a mold material capable of withstanding the heat and expansion/ contraction of molten glass. After the mold is steamed, the mold is fired in a kiln allowing glass to slowly drip into the mold at a temperature of 1550 degrees F over a period of 7-9 days,' artist Wm. Austin Norvell
